The SAIMCo Team is headed by John O’Brien

John O’Brien’s 50 years of experience in the cattle industry began with milking cows on the family farm at age 6. Based in Melbourne, Australia, his experience covers every aspect of the Australian and International Dairy and Beef Cattle Industries, from importing and exporting live cattle and frozen genetics, breeding stud and commercial cattle, consulting to cattle breeders in Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.A. on genetic selection and design, as well as designing Profitable Farming Systems™.

Considered by many as a maverick and one of the world’s best livestock judges, history has proven him to be an ahead of his time visionary with a repeated pattern of his industry insights and forecasts coming to fruition.

One of John’s priorities has been the study, research and analysis of the economic functionality of the ‘modern’ bovine species and farming systems. Combining active hands on participation with passionate, relentless, independent and accurate research, this extensive investigation and evaluation has been conducted in several Countries, including, Australia, the USA, New Zealand, South Africa, England, Ireland, and several European Union countries. Efficiency of production and quality of final product (Nutrient Dense Food) are a big part of this investigation.

This research combined with 40 years of intense observation, analysis and evaluation culminates and confirms the beliefs: The key to Profitable and Sustainable Farming is the actual farming system around which the enterprise is based. True productivity gains are the only gains which return a higher profit. The ‘modern’ farming way of ‘buying’ more production is unprofitable and unsustainable. John’s experience and observation also firmly validate his strong belief that farming industries are relentlessly supplied information and resources which are (erroneously) introduced and marketed as profit lifters when in fact they are turning out to be the opposite. And mainly supplied by vested interests with no hands-on experience. This high saturation level of the supply of misinformation is a systemic cancer within agriculture Worldwide.

And as a result of this research and experience, John has a solid foundation for the following statement of benefits of his work and his mission:

Hands on experience is the only intellectual property which counts.

The culmination of this intensive involvement lays down the rock solid foundations for forming SAIMCo. Two of John’s selection criteria for SAIMCo’s carefully chosen team of are:

  1. The individual must derive their income from their skill base
  2. They must be fiercely independent thinkers

Over time, using these and several other criteria John has formed  SAIMCo  by identifying and carefully hand-picking a broad resourceful skill base of very experienced, hands-on operators for the specific purpose of creating Profitable and Sustainable Farming Enterprises.

Why this quest? Worldwide John has observed farmers experiencing diminishing financial returns with the ‘blame’ being put in the wrong areas. John is passionate about farming and his experience generates the firm belief that creating profitable and sustainable farming systems is the key to sustainable Agricultural production. He is also intensely curious and less inclined to take the easy way out, would rather investigate than accept established beliefs, believes that we should live with both our head and our heart, is concerned over the current state of the beef and dairy cattle industry and the products consumers purchase, wants to make money for farmers rather than from them, wants to show consumers and producers that different alternatives are available and desires to make a difference in the world and a difference in people’s lives.
